Sports Management Sport Management Essay - 837 Words

The careers within sport management have varied and grown exponentially throughout the history of sports. From team management to sport agency, sport management helps handle business within sports while the athletes can perform with no distraction. Within the careers of sport management, the top positions of sports are consisted of presidents, coordinators, and officials. Of the top positions lies my most interested career of the athletic director, the administrator of all operations of coaches, athletes, and events in college, university, and high school sports. I was able to interview Martin Segovia, who is currently an athletic director at Garden City High School in Kansas. Born in Garden City, Segovia strived to be a star athlete in football and wrestling. Segovia then earned an athletic scholarship to wrestle at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, where he was a three-time All-American majoring in Social Studies. After his wrestling career, Segovia moved on to coaching after sw itching his major to Administration. His passion for sports and students were the key motivating factor in helping Segovia make the push into sport management. Coming back to Garden City, Segovia held varsity coaching positions in football and wrestling before he was finally appointed the athletic director in 2010. With a vast number of tasks and objectives needed to be met on a daily basis, Segovia’s work day is never the same.
